Properties：Ethyl acetate is a colorless and transparent liquid under normal temperature and pressure, with a natural fruity aroma. It features excellent solubility and moderate volatility. Its melting point ranges from approximately -83.6℃ to -84℃, and its boiling point is between 76.5℃ and 77.5℃. At 20℃, it has a relative density of 0.902g/cm³, a refractive index of 1.372 and a saturated vapor pressure of 10.1kPa, with the vapor having a relative density of 3.04 (air = 1). Slightly soluble in water, its aqueous solution is acidic, and it is miscible with various organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform. It has a flash point of -4℃ (closed cup), being volatile and flammable, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air with an explosion limit of 2.2%-11.5% (vol). It shows extremely low toxicity (the oral LD₅₀ in rats is 11.3mL/kg) and relatively high thermal stability, without obvious changes when heated at 290℃ for 8-10 hours. Chemically reactive, it exhibits typical ester properties and can undergo hydrolysis, alcoholysis, ammonolysis, transesterification and other reactions. Hydrolysis under acid catalysis yields acetic acid and ethanol (with the reaction effect being optimal at 65-75℃), while hydrolysis proceeds more thoroughly under alkaline conditions. Irradiated by ultraviolet light, it decomposes to produce gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Applications: Ethyl acetate is a versatile organic solvent and chemical intermediate. Owing to its excellent solubility, volatility and chemical reactivity, it is widely used in multiple industries, details as follows:

1. Coatings and Inks Industry: Served as a core solvent, it is used in formulating nitrocellulose paints, polyurethane paints, acrylic paints, etc. It can effectively dissolve resins and pigments, and improve the leveling property and glossiness of coatings. Meanwhile, it is also an important component of printing inks, suitable for offset printing and gravure printing processes, ensuring the drying speed and adhesion effect of inks.
2. Adhesives Industry: It is a key solvent for producing adhesives such as white latex and universal adhesives. It can adjust the viscosity and curing speed of adhesives, and is commonly used for bonding in wood processing, furniture manufacturing and packaging materials.
3. Pharmaceutical and Food Industries: In the pharmaceutical field, it acts as a solvent for drug extraction (e.g., extracting active ingredients from Chinese herbal medicines) and an excipient for pharmaceutical preparations (e.g., solvent for oral solutions and external ointments). In the food industry, thanks to its natural fruity aroma, it is listed as a food additive, serving as a carrier for flavors and fragrances, or directly used in preparing fruit-flavored essences applied in beverages, candies, pastries and other products.
4. Chemical Synthesis Field: As an important intermediate, it participates in the synthesis of various chemical products, such as the production of ester compounds including butyl acetate and ethyl acetoacetate, and it can also be used in the preparation of textile auxiliaries and plastic plasticizers.
5. Textile and Leather Industries: It is used for cleaning and degreasing textile fabrics to remove oil stains and impurities on the fabrics. Meanwhile, it can act as a degreasing agent and softener in leather processing to improve the texture and smoothness of leather.
6. Other Fields: It is commonly used as an extractant in laboratories for the separation and purification of organic compounds. Additionally, it can be incorporated into detergent formulations to remove grease and stains, applicable for cleaning industrial equipment and household cleaning products.
