Properties：Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) is a colorless, transparent liquid with a slight ester-like odor. Melting point: 2–4℃; Boiling point: 90.1–90.2℃; Density: 1.069–1.073 g/cm³ (20℃); Refractive index: 1.3697; Viscosity: 0.664 mPa·s; Flash point: 21.7℃ (open cup); Vapor pressure: 56 mmHg (25℃). It is slightly soluble in water (solubility approx. 139 g/L at 25℃) and miscible with most organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons. It is stable at room temperature, with a thermal decomposition temperature of approximately 300℃ without a catalyst. It is prone to decompose into methanol and carbon dioxide when exposed to high temperatures, strong acids, strong bases or strong oxidants.

Its core applications are as follows:

1. Core Raw Material for Polycarbonate (PC) Synthesis: As a key raw material for non-phosgene polycarbonate, it reacts with bisphenol A to produce environmentally friendly polycarbonate, which is widely used in electronic device casings, auto parts, optical lenses, food packaging and other fields. This is the largest demand direction for industrial-grade DMC.
2. Specialized Solvent for Lithium Battery Electrolyte: Battery-grade dimethyl carbonate (moisture content <20ppm) is a core component of lithium-ion battery electrolytes. It can improve lithium salt solubility and battery electrochemical performance, suitable for new energy scenarios such as new energy vehicle batteries and energy storage power stations.
3. Low-Toxicity Solvent for Environmentally Friendly Coatings and Inks: It replaces traditional high-VOC solvents such as toluene and xylene, and is used in the production of polyurethane paints, acrylic coatings, printing inks and adhesives. Effectively reducing VOC emissions, it is an ideal choice for environmentally friendly solvents for coatings.
4. Green Synthetic Intermediate for Pharmaceuticals and Pesticides: As a low-toxic methylation reagent, it replaces highly toxic raw materials such as dimethyl sulfate and phosgene. It is used in pharmaceutical intermediates such as cephalosporin antibiotics and ciprofloxacin, as well as the green synthesis of pesticides such as imidacloprid and glyphosate methyl ester.
5. Fine Chemicals and Other Industrial Applications: It is used to synthesize fine chemical intermediates such as diphenyl carbonate and isocyanate. As a gasoline octane booster, it improves fuel combustion efficiency. It can also be used in refrigerator compressor oil, food antioxidant synthesis and extraction of active ingredients from traditional Chinese medicine.
